HISTORIA KWA UFUPI KUHUSU NELSON MANDELA

Rais Nelson Mandela amefariki baada ya kusumbuliwa kwa muda mrefu na maradhi ya maambukizi ya pafu. Katika maisha yake Mandela alifungwa jela kifungo cha maisha lakini alikaa jela kwa miaka 27 katika gereza lililo katika kisiwa cha Robben huko Afrika Kusini na baadaye aliachiwa huru mwaka 1990. Mandela alipigania ukombozi na uhuru wa mwafrika kwa amani na iliposhindikana yeye pamoja na wanachama wenzie wa ANC waliamua kutumia nguvu ya mtutu wa bunduki mpaka walipofanikiwa. Mwaka 1994 alichaguliwa kuwa Rais wa kwanza mweusi wa Afrika Kusini. Tofauti na viongozi wengine wa Afrika, Mandela alihudumu kwa miaka 5 tu kisha alistaafu mwaka 1999 na kubaki kama balozi wa Afrika Kusini dhidi ya UKIMWI. Alizaliwa mwaka 1918 Mashariki mwa Rasi ya Tumaini Jema na amefariki akiwa na umri wa miaka 95. Harakati zake katika kupigania ukombozi wa mwafrika zinafanana na zile za watu weusi huko Amerika. Enzi za uhai wake aliwahi kuyasema haya: "During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination". Alishinda tuzo ya amani ya Nobel mwaka 1993 iliyompa heshima kubwa ulimwenguni kote licha kuwa aliwahi kufungwa jela miaka 27. Alishiriki katika juhudi za kutafuta amani nchini Burundi, DRC na kwingeneko barani Afrika. Hakika atakumbukwa kwa mengi sana.
