VAN GAAL: MADRID HAWATOMUUZA RONALDO
The Dutchman admits he would welcome the arrival of the Portugal international but believes the European champions would not be prepared to sell the player
Louis van Gaal admits Manchester United would explore the possibility of signing Cristiano Ronaldo but insists it is unlikely that Real Madrid will sell the forward.
Reports have suggested that the Portugal international, who signed a five-year contract extension with Madrid last September, will push for a move back to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
But while the United boss maintains his side would be strengthened by the return of Ronaldo, he believes the European champions are not prepared to allow the 29-year-old to leave.
“It’s always a discussion in the papers. I don’t think the media shall buy Ronaldo,” said Van Gaal.
“When it is possible, it is what I have always said with Falcao, players like Ronaldo give a lot extra to selection, to the team, but I don't think Real Madrid shall sell him.”
Earlier this month, Ronaldo admitted that he would be keen to return to Old Trafford, but insisted he was happy at Madrid.
"I love Manchester. Everyone knows that - I have said it many times. Manchester is in my heart," said the Portugal international.
"I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day."
